As Skin of Skunk Anansie once so eloquently put it: “Yes it’s f***ing satirical, everything’s satirical, yes it’s f***ing political, everything’s political!“
The ELESC is a national mission to inject some musical style into the 2010 UK elections! How well hung is your parliament? Come and take part in the 2010 Election Song Contest!
Spearheaded by Hot Salt Beef Studios and supported by Ed Chappel of the Musical Comedy Awards (musicalcomedy.co.uk), the Election Song Contest brings a musical, satirical and comical edge to the coming election with a selection of top musicians and comedians competing to perform the best election song.
Prepare for a raucous celebration of music, comedy and amazing food at the wonderful Darbucka in Farringdon. The audience will vote for their favourite election song (see the entries so far www.electionsong.com), with the winner receiving a cash prize of £100! Radio 4′s World Tonight will be also be reporting live on the event.
The evening will be headlined by SON OF DAVE, currently on a sell-out tour of the UK and Europe:
“Great pop tunes with meaty hooks and catchy choruses” – NME 8/10
“03 is a sensuous symphony of sin…a glimpse into the future, this is his (Son of Dave’s) triumphant manifesto” - Observer Music Monthly 4/5
“Makes even Beck seem conventional” – Uncut
“Fuzzy human beatbox blues … grizzled … rough edged … raw …melodic” – The Telegraph
Top political comedy from KATE SMURTHWAITE:
“A powerhouse of observational wit” – The Spectator
“Comedy that cuts through the crap” – Three Weeks
“There is very little for me to write here. Honestly. Nothing at all. It really was that good. … Unbelievably jealous of all those of you that are in Edinburgh to the end of the month and can catch this show every day” – Broadway Baby
We are also very excited to invite the outstanding sell-out sketch duo ROBIN & PARTRIDGE:
“A highly talented young gang” – Time Out Magazine
“A joy to Watch” The Metro
“Not to be missed” – The London Lite
“Jarvis wrestled a robot” – Times Style Magazine
“So very hot” – Three Weeks Magazine. “
Artists still hoping to enter the contest must submit a video to Facebook. If you cannot submit a video, you can also send an mp3 to Ed Chappel at ed@musicalcomedy.co.uk.
